You Don’t Have to Carry This Alone

Virtual faith-integrated grief counseling for women navigating loss — serving Illinois since 1999

You can't stop crying. You can't concentrate. Or maybe you are just numb. You go through the motions of your day but nothing feels real anymore. The person you loved — your husband, your mother, your partner — is gone. All you feel is emptiness.

Maybe it's been weeks. Maybe it's been years. Either way the grief is still there, still heavy, still catching you off guard in the grocery store or in the middle of the night.

And the world keeps moving like nothing happened.

Grief is not a problem to be solved or a phase to push through. It's a profound human experience that deserves to be honored — with time, with compassion, and with the right kind of support.

That's what Hope Reins is here for.

You deserve support that actually meets you where grief lives — not just a place to talk about it.

You Might be Ready for Grief Counseling If….

  • You lost your spouse or partner and overwhelmed and confused

  • You're grieving a parent and feel more alone than you expected

  • The people around you think you should be "over it" by now — but you're not

  • You're functioning on the outside but falling apart on the inside

  • Your faith feels shaken and you're not sure God is still there

  • You've tried to push through alone and it isn't working anymore

Grief Counseling that Goes Deeper Than Talking

Grief lives in the body as much as the mind. That's why I don't rely on one approach — I use different approaches to meet you exactly where you are:

Brainspotting — grief gets stored in the nervous system and the body. Brainspotting reaches where it actually lives, creating shifts and relief that talk therapy alone often can't provide.

Faith-Integrated Counseling — your faith is not separate from your grief. We bring them into the same room — the hard questions, the anger at God, and the hope that healing is still possible. We won’t just rely on Christian cliches.

Art Therapy — sometimes grief is too deep for words. Art therapy gives it another way out — through color, image, and creative expression that bypasses the analytical mind.

Equine-Assisted Intensives — for those who feel profoundly stuck, an equine intensive can create a breakthrough in a single day that weekly sessions sometimes can't reach in months.

Cognitive Behavioral Approaches — practical tools for managing the overwhelming waves of emotion so you can begin to function and find your footing again.

No single path works for everyone. Together we'll find what actually works for you and work at your pace.

What Grief Counseling at Hope Reins Looks Like

We start with a free 20-minute consultation — no pressure, just an honest conversation about where you are and what you need.

From there we design a plan that's specific to you. Your grief is not like anyone else's and your healing won't be either. Sessions are conducted virtually so you can receive support from the privacy and comfort of your own home, wherever you are in Illinois.

You won't be pushed to "move on" or told how long healing should take. You'll be met exactly where you are, at a pace that feels right for you.

When Grief and Faith Collide

Losing someone you love can shake your faith to its foundation. You might be angry at God. You might wonder why He allowed this. You might feel guilty for struggling when you "know" He is good.

These are not signs of weak faith. They are signs of real love and real loss.

At Hope Reins your spiritual struggles are as welcome as your emotional ones. We don't gloss over the hard questions — we bring them into the healing work. And we hold onto hope together, even when you can't feel it yourself.

Revelation 21:4: “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore.”

Common Questions About Grief Counseling

  • Neither. Some people come to me in the acute early weeks of loss. Others come years later when grief has quietly taken over their life. Whenever you're ready is the right time.

  • There is no standard timeline for grief — it's as unique as the relationship you lost. Some clients find significant relief in a few months. Others benefit from longer support. We'll move at a pace that feels right for you and reassess regularly.

  • Yes — and often dramatically. Grief gets stored in the body and nervous system, not just the mind. Brainspotting accesses those stored places and helps release what talking alone can't always reach. Many of my grief clients experience significant shifts in just a few sessions.

  • No. While my approach is Christ-centered I welcome clients of all backgrounds who are open to a faith-informed perspective. What matters most is that you feel safe and ready to begin healing.

  • Yes — equine-assisted intensives are available for grief clients who feel profoundly stuck or want to accelerate their healing. These are powerful immersive experiences that can create breakthroughs in a single day. Contact me to learn more.

A Story of Hope

“I came to Hope Reins feeling stuck, angry, misunderstood, and overwhelmed with grief. I was losing control of my feelings and taking it out on others. Debra made me feel comfortable and always geared my sessions to what I needed at the time. Now I'm more aware of my feelings and how to control them. I feel hopeful and not overwhelmed. I have a greater realization that I'm not bad for feeling things intensely and that I can cope with my feelings now.”

You’ve Carried This Long Enough

Grief doesn't have to be this heavy forever. With the right support, healing is possible — not forgetting, not moving on, but finding your footing again and stepping back into your life.

I'd be honored to walk that journey with you.
